In order to ensure a continuous harvest, we try to practice succession planting: a method in which several smaller plantings are made at timed intervals, rather than all at once. The plants mature at staggered dates, establishing a continuous harvest over an extended period. The cauliflower, for instance, was planted three separate times, 7-10 days apart with the hopes of a steady 6-week harvest window.
With this warm weather, though, all the plants are acting a little unpredictably. Just as our first cauliflower started heading up, the third planting was nearly ready to go. Our steady 6-week harvest is quickly turning into a 3-week cauliflower bonanza. So get those cauliflower rice/steak/fritter/salad/muffin/etc. recipes ready–we’re coming at you!
