We received a lot of valuable feedback in last year’s end-of-season survey, but one takeaway stood out from the rest: you want us to be more adventurous in our variety choices. Traditionally, we’ve focused on varieties that we know grow well–disease-resistant standard bearers with good yield potential. A lot of our customers are just casual farmers’ market shoppers, so we try to focus on things that feel familiar and approachable.
But this year, thanks to your input, we’re sampling some more exciting plant varieties. The bunching broccoli pictured above is one example of this new pursuit. Similar to broccolini, Happy Rich offers a longer harvest window than traditional heading broccoli and performs better in the summer heat. We’re not sold on its productivity yet, but we’re withholding judgement until we get your feedback. While quantities are limited this week, we hope to offer it until at least the end of June.
P.S.–For all of our Frankford Transportation Center customers, we’ll be setting up on the corner of Frankford and Bridge beginning this Tuesday, June 6th from 2pm-6pm! We look forward to seeing you then.
